  • Can you redesign my existing website?
We certainly can - though in most cases it's more effective to create a new site. If you have an existing site, let us know the URL, what it's built on, and what your main concerns are. If you need to stay on your platform for whatever reason, get in touch with us and we can provide you with a bespoke quote.
  • What do I need to provide before we start the project?
To make your on-boarding as smooth as possible, we highly recommend that if you have branding, a domain with a registrar, and a DNS provider, access to these should be readily available. For branding, this means ensuring we have the 'working files', normally in SVG, EPS, or AI vector file formats. For your domain and DNS, this means having the login details available for us to access and make any necessary updates.
  • How long does it take to design and launch a website?
The length of time can vary depending on the size of the website you need and the scope of the functionality within it. Typically, a Start-up package can be launched in approximately 3-5 days, a Pro-Plus package can be launched in approximately 2 weeks, and an Advanced package site can be launched in approximately 3 weeks. Note: Site on advanced packages can take longer depending on the volume of content required in vertical scaling apps - number of products, number of bookable services, number of events, number of blog posts, etc.
  • What is DNS and why is it important?
DNS stands for Domain Name System. It connects your domain name to your website so people can find you online. If you secure you domain through Modemkiller or are able to provide us access to your existing domain, we’ll handle all the DNS setup for you - so everything works smoothly behind the scenes.
  • I don't have any photos or videos for my website, can you help?
Photography and videography can make all the difference to a website, and don't worry if you can't get your hands on any quality visual content. If you're not happy with what you can capture on your phone, we have two options: We leverage licenced stock imagery, illustrations, and videos to help make your site pop. We connect you with professional videographers, photographers and drone pilots that can provide you with quality, on-brand, and authentic visuals. Option one is included with the price of your website package. While stock content has its value and its place, nothing beats real and authentic visuals. if you require these for your site, get in touch with us and we can connect you with some of the best photographers, videographers, drone pilots, and editors in Scotland.
  • What is a domain name and how do I get one?
A domain name is your website’s address on the internet, like www.yourbusiness.co.uk. We can help you choose and register a domain name that suits your brand. If you opt to obtain your domain with us, we can also assist with setting up your DNS.
  • What is responsive design and why does it matter?
Responsive design means your website looks great and functions correctly on all devices - from the smallest phone to the largest desktop computer screen. In the interest of catering to all users, we build sites with responsive design as a core principle. It's important because a majority of users will typically view your website on their phone, but a meaningful number of others will still visit your site on their desktop or tablets. Depending on your industry and your target demographic, desktop users may even feature as the majority.
  • Do you offer eCommerce or booking features?
We certainly do - our Advanced packages include the implementation of vertical scaling apps - these are widgets and apps within the Wix environment that allow for ecommerce products, blogging, bookings, appointments, events, etc. If you're unsure which package you need, contact us and we'll help connect you with the package that's best for you.
  • Will my website show up on Google?
Yes - once your domain has successfully been connected to your website and your SEO setup is complete, the team at Modemkiller will connect your website to Google via Google Search Console.
  • Can I edit the website myself after it's built?
You sure can - CMS platforms like Wix Editor and Squarespace make use of intuitive web builders that will allow you to access your design and make simple changes. Be aware, however, that our packages are for websites designed by a professional using Wix Studio, which is a more complex design tool. As such, you can launch your site editor in 'content mode', which allows you to make soft changes without affecting layouts. Regardless, if you need something changed, added, or updated - we highly recommend you contact us first to see if we can help.
  • What makes Modemkiller's web hosting different?
Our cloud-based servers, based in London, are optimised for performance, scalability, and security. We offer features like vertical scaling, daily backups, malware scanning, and professional email integration; all of the ideal things for growing businesses and serious creators.
  • Is my website secure on your hosting?
Absolutely. Our servers include malware scanning, SSL certificates, and proactive monitoring to help keep your site safe and secure.
  • Will my website be fast?
Yes - we do everything within our power to make sure your site is operating at maximum capacity at server level. Our cloud hosting uses SSD storage and smart caching to deliver speed and reliability, even during busy periods. Note: we are unable to account for site-level decision-making and design that strains the performance of your site. However, we will advise on best practices should a performance drop occur as a result of any detected site-level issues. If activity on your site causes server wide issues and reasonable action to resolve it isn't taken within a reasonable time, we will be forced to upscale our servers and adjust your hosting tier appropriately.
  • What does vertical scaling mean?
Vertical scaling means your hosting plan can grow with your website. As your business expands and your site sees more traffic or requires more resources, we can scale up your hosting without downtime.
  • What kind of support do you offer?
As part of your hosting package, the team at Modemkiller is always available for helpful advice. We will offer direct support to help troubleshoot any issues related to your hosting or emails where the source is determined to be within our remit. If you need something more advanced, or require help with troubleshooting or site performance at site level, we're happy to make our expertise available at our standard hourly rate.
  • What is web hosting, and why do I need it?
Web hosting is the service that stores your website and makes it accessible on the internet. Without hosting, your website can’t be seen online. Think of it as renting space for your website to live.
  • Do you include email with hosting?
Our email mailboxes are purchased separately. You can have website hosting, any number of email mailboxes, or both! Mailboxes are not to be confused with SMTP. Our hosting includes server-side SMTP for reliable email delivery directly from website.
  • What is site migration, and why is it necessary when I change hosting provider?
Site migration is the process of moving your website’s files, databases, emails, and other settings from your current hosting provider to a new one. However, the site itself isn't moved, in practical terms the site is copied. Hence, migrating (copying) your site over to the new hosting provided is crucial. At Modemkiller, we offer support to help make this transition smooth, minimising downtime and preserving your site’s functionality. Depending on the scale and nature of the migration, we may charge a transfer fee.
  • Is there a contract or minimum term?
We have no minimum hosting terms but we require 30 days notice if you should decide to transfer away from our hosting packages. Written notice should be given via email.
  • Can I move my existing website to Modemkiller hosting?
Yes. If you have a WordPress site you're switching from another hosting provider, we can assist with migrating your site and email accounts smoothly. In order to facilitate the transfer of a site and/or email mailboxes, we will need overall access to the website's WordPress dashboard, Domain/DNS, and your existing email mailbox server. Not sure how to do this? Simply contact us and we'll walk you through it.
  • Is my website backed up regularly?
Yes. We perform regular server-side backups, so if something goes wrong, we can help you restore your website quickly. Note: this service is not intended to replace your site-level backup practices and is instead intended to present clients with an additional level of asset security.
  • Can I use my own photos or ideas in the design?
Of course. We love collaborating with your own materials - be it reference images, inspiration boards, or original photography. They help shape a final product that feels authentic and true to you and your business.
  • How do I get started?
Get in touch through our contact form below or on our 'contact us' page. We'll arrange a discovery session to understand your needs, timeline, and vision.
  • Do you offer print-ready artwork?
Yes. All artworks intended for print are supplied in high-resolution formats with correct bleed, margins, and colour profiles - ready for your chosen print provider. If your print provider has specific needs, we can can adapt to suit their technical specifications.
  • What’s the difference between graphic design for web, digital, and print?
Graphic design for digital includes graphics made for websites - such as icons, dividers, banners, and animations. Digital design is also for social media, ads, and content marketing. Print design is for physical media like flyers, posters, or business cards. Each uses different formats, colours, and sizing.
  • Can I hire Modemkiller just for a logo or brand refresh?
Absolutely. Whether you're just starting out or rebranding an existing business, we offer standalone logo and identity design packages tailored to your goals. For a free quote, just get in touch.
  • Help! I’ve lost my logo files!
Don’t worry - we keep all past projects on file. If you ever lose your logo or need it in a different format or colour profile, we’ll send it over free of charge. Please note: this service is a 'within reason' service, and does not extend to specialist file types, or to file types that didn't exist when the project was delivered.
  • Do you offer social media design kits?
Yes. We can create branded templates for your posts, stories, highlights, and ads - all customised for the platforms you use most.
  • What file formats will I receive?
You’ll receive everything you need, which can vary depending on the nature of your project. Digital projects come in various vector (SVG, AI, or EPS), high-res raster (PNG, JPG), and colour-accurate versions (RGB). Printed projects come in similar formats but in a print-friendly colour range (CMYK). Branding projects will come in a combination of the above, so that you can use it anywhere.
  • Will the branding be unique to my business?
Always. We never use generic templates or pre-made logos. Every brand identity is custom-built around your story, market, and audience.
  • Do I have to pay for my website up front?
You don't have to pay for your website up front, but we won't start working on your website until we receive an agreed deposit. Your balance can be paid over the course of several monthly repayments, depending on the overall value of your chosen package: Start-up packages can be paid for in two monthly instalments Pro-Plus packages can be paid for in four monthly instalments Advanced packages can be paid for in five monthly instalments If you would like to discuss your options, get in touch with us and we'll be happy to help. WordPress sites can require a larger upfront payment/deposit due to the investment of time in initial stages.
  • How much does a website cost?
With Modemkiller, a Wix CMS based site can cost anything from £539 to £2699 or more, depending on the functionality your business requires. If you're unsure which package is right for you, get in touch with us and we'll be happy to discuss your needs and offer your a free quote. Looking for pricing for a WordPress site? WordPress sites require a bespoke free quotation because of their complex nature and the tandem hosting package required for launch.
  • Do I own my website once it's finished?
In all functional and practical terms - yes, absolutely. You will have direct and complete access to your site's dashboard and editor. However - your Wix website will remain under the umbrella of Modemkiller's studio account. This is due to the compounded benefits our studio receives from retaining Wix sites in our accounts. If we build your site with WordPress, your site will be hosted on our UK based cloud server. You will retain overall access and control, but server-side management will remain with Modemkiller. If at any time you would like to move your site away from our accounts or servers, we will be happy to help facilitate the transfers.
  • Are there any annual fees for hosting or maintenance?
Yes - annual fees are paid directly to the CMS platform that your site is built on, the price of these fees depends on the functionality of your site. WordPress sites hosted on our servers incur hosting fees and these are paid directly to Modemkiller via subscription. The price of these fees depends on the tier of hosting that is offered to you, which is dependent on the volume of activity (or projected volume of activity) present on your site. Modemkiller Ltd reserves the right to adjust the tier of your subscription should site activity dictate the need.
  • Do you offer finance options?
We don't offer finance options but we can agree a payment schedule that suits your needs. Payment schedules can depend on the Wix website package you choose, as a rule of thumb: Start-up packages can be paid for in two monthly instalments Pro-Plus packages can be paid for in four monthly instalments Advanced packages can be paid for in five monthly instalments If you would like to discuss your options, get in touch with us and we'll be happy to help. WordPress sites will have the same equivalent payment schedule depending on cost, though bespoke schedules can be agreed upon discussion.
  • What is an annual site fee and why do I pay it?
An annual site fee is the cost for the running of your site each year. The amount of fees you pay are dependent on the capabilities of your site and the platform that it is built on. Annual site fees are paid directly to the platform and not paid to or by Modemkiller Ltd. Much in the same way that if you purchase a car, you'll also be responsible for putting in the petrol to run it! Annual site fees are different and separate from ongoing maintenance or subscription packages.
  • I can't see my question!
Sounds interesting! Get in touch with us immediately - and we may even update our FAQ section to feature your question.
  • Do you provide videography and photography?
No, we don't specialise in content capture - but we know plenty of brand names that do. We can connect you with some of the best photographers, videographers, editors and drone pilots in the country. Get in touch with us about the job you need done and we'll point you in the right direction.
  • What software do you design graphics on?
While we have no particular brand loyalties, the most convenient and powerful tools are found in Adobe's Creative Cloud software - apps such as Illustrator, After effects, and Photoshop. We also have access to prototyping tools like Figma, should you need a wireframe or functional prototype as part of your web design project.
  • What do you build you sites on?
Modemkiller Ltd primarily delivers websites on the Wix Studio environment. This is because the Wix environ provides a selection of tools within the dashboard that can help a client run their business. Such as; booking systems, ecommerce systems, blogging tools, marketing tools, AI support tools, payment gateways, invoicing, and more. Should you have specific requirements, or your business is unsuited to the Wix environ, we will design your site in the WordPress environment, which will have a different scale of design costs and annual fees. We also have experience in building sites on Squarespace, Webflow, and Shopify.
  • Where are you based and can you travel?
Modemkiller Ltd is based in Glasgow, specifically in Renfrew. Where appropriate, we are able to travel to work on location if necessary. Depending on distance, a travel cost may be incurred.
